Meet Mia
Mia is our beloved cat who is very sociable and loves human company. Usually, she likes to patrol around the garden and neighbouring plots pretty much all day (and night). She is familiar with our guest house and regards it as her territory as well as the main house. She knows her name well and will usually appear out of nowhere when called.
Petting her:
As I said, she’s sociable and not shy and especially likes to be stroked on her head or back when she stands. Once she’s lying down, it’s better to avoid stroking or rubbing her belly. Like most cats, that’s not so much her thing and she will let you know.
House Rules:
She roams freely in the house, but she’s not allowed to jump or sit on any counters or tables and she knows it. She is usually not challenging these rules, but if she does, just tell her ‘no’ and take her down. There’s no cat toilette in the house, she does her business outside in the garden. So, it’s best to open the front door or sliding windows when she sits in front of them, which means she wants/needs to go out. Also, you should check that she’s out of the house, when you leave to avoid accidents. At the moment she sleeps outside at night, so please let her out in the evening and not worry about her until the next morning.
Feeding:
In the morning: (between 7 and 10am)
She get’s a sachet of wet food. You can place the bowl inside next to her dry food feeder or outside in front of the window. When you call her name, she will make her way from wherever she is, back to our property. It might take a while (15 to 20 minutes) until she comes, but she likes her food, so she’s motivated to appear. Rattling the treat sachet will often do the trick, if she doesn’t show up after calling her.
During the day:
She likes to nibble on her dry food.
At night:
She gets a little treat, before going ‘to bed’ (outside), also in a little bowl. And timewise, she’s very flexible, so don’t worry about any specific hour, we do it whenever we go to sleep.
Water:
Please make sure she always has fresh water in her drinking bowl. You can find it on the left side of the kitchen furniture.
There is also a second water bowl at the main house at a window close to the bbq area under the stair case. This is her favourite drinking bowl. If you could refresh that one also once a day it would be fabulous.
Emergency:
If you think something is not quite right with Mia, or if you have any questions about her, you can of course message or call us. Also, our neighbour Anna is very knowledgeable about cats. She’s a cat mum herself and goes to the same vet in town as we.
